Yankees Win League Opener

Coach Elijah Asante addresses his team after a win over Crenshaw High.

Hamilton High School’s football team has already eclipsed its win total from last year (2). They currently hold a record of 3-3 overall, and they were victorious in their league opener against Fairfax High School (final score: 26-6). The Yankees faced some stiff competition in their non-league schedule as they fell to Serra High School in their season opener and lost to a currently undefeated team, Pacifica High School, in their final game before their Western League opener. The Yankees also faced Crenshaw High in a non-league matchup, and they managed to hand the Cougars their only loss of the season thus far. The final score in that game was 23-6 in favor of the Yankees.

Freshman quarterback Thaddeus Breaux has been impressive thus far in what has the makings of a turnaround season for the Yankees. Breaux and junior receiver Jacob Riley seem to have built chemistry between one another, and they have connected on numerous big plays throughout the season.

St. John Bosco transfer Kristian Leslie is another difference maker for the Yankees on both the offensive and defensive sides. It appears he has made himself at home and is enjoying the new digs. He should continue to play a big role for the Yankees.

A couple of Yankees’ performances in the game against Fairfax that are worthy of attention came from (1) Le’Kai Morgan who had 6 receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown, and he also added an interception on the defensive end; and (2) Roger Quinones who was a defensive spark that was all over the field making plays. Quinones led the team with 8 total tackles for the game.
